Big team at Nottingham tomorrow

Tuesday, April 11, 2017
The turf season gets into gear for us at Nottingham tomorrow as we saddle four runners headed by ICE SLICE, all will be ridden by Ryan Tate. ICE SLICE makes his seasonal reappearance in a mile handicap and is drawn 7 of 15 runners. A lower draw would have been preferred but he is a dual course and distance winner so he loves the track. We are keen to get a run into him now as his early season target is the mile handicap at the Chester meeting in May. He is high in the handicap but he is in good form at home so should run well.
FATHER McKENZIE runs in the 5 furlong handicap and is well drawn in 13 of 14, high draws are usually favoured in the sprint races. He was bought out of Mick Channon's yard last autumn and was a consistent performer for him, he is consequently a bit high in the handicap. He has been gelded over the winter and has been working nicely at home. He is a genuine and straightforward horse and we hope he will run an encouraging race tomorrow.
SEE THE CITY is another new recruit, he was purchased from Mark Johnston and is a course winner over a mile. We are stepping him up to 10 furlongs tomorrow and he is drawn 8 of the 10 runners. He looks the type of horse that will stay and ultimately may stay even further in time. He too has been gelded over the winter and we have been very pleased with the way he has been working. He seems a straightforward horse and should improve with time. We hope he can run an encouraging race tomorrow and we can learn more about him for the future.
POPPY TIME completes the team tomorrow, she runs in a mile handicap and is drawn 7 of 14 runners. She showed glimpses of form in 2 Newbury maidens last year then ran on the all weather which did not suit her. We then did not get another chance to run her back on the turf. Last year was her first year of racing as she never ran at 2 so it was a bit of a learning year. At home she has always worked as if she has a race in her so that is why we have persevered with her. She has a nice pedigree so it would be good if she could get a winning bracket. We are starting her off over a mile and see how she goes. She looks well and has not missed a day this year so she is fit and we hope she can run a nice race tomorrow.
