MAJOR CRISPIES and SANDY COVE both head up the A1 this weekend and neither of them would want too much rain too fall in Yorkshire. MAJOR CRISPIES runs in a 7 furlong handicap at York tomorrow and is drawn 1 of the 12 runners. James Doyle gets the ride, he rode him when he ran well at Goodwood earlier in the season so knows the horse. He has been running some great races in defeat and consequently has not been done any favours by the handicapper as he was put up 2 pounds for finishing second at Redcar. He was only beaten 1 1/2 lengths last time out off this mark at Doncaster. He ran well at York over this trip as a 2 year old so the course will suit and they should go a good gallop which will also help him. It is a competitive race and he will need to run up to his best to be in with a shout but he seems in good form at home so we are hoping for the best.
SANDY COVE runs at Pontefract on Sunday in a 12 furlong handicap. He is drawn 11 of 15 runners and Graham Gibbons takes the ride. We tried dropping him back in distance to 10 furlongs last time but he ran as if a return to 12 furlongs would suit, this does seem his optimum trip. It is a valuable race for the grade so Pontefract should be applauded for putting up such good prize money and they have been rewarded with a large field. This will hopefully mean they will go a good gallop which will suit him. He has been running consistently well and has eased down the handicap a few pounds so can hopefully run well on Sunday providing they don't get too much rain and the ground does not become soft.
