Drop in trip for Highfaluting at Kempton tomorrow

Monday, August 19, 2019
HIGHFALUTNG drops back to a mile at Kempton tomorrow. He is drawn 8 of the 14 runners and will be ridden by Gerald Mosse. He was only narrowly beaten twice over 10 furlongs earlier in the season and we tried stepping him up to 12 furlongs and he didn't get home. He has been working well at home with COVERHAM, who is a 7 furlong Kempton specialist, and has shown plenty of speed. On examination of his pedigree, although he is by Derby winner High Chapparal, he is from a good New Zealand pedigree in which the best horses were all milers. It is a slight experiment but if he runs as well as he has been working at home he must have a chance.
NORDIC FLIGHT heads for Yarmouth tomorrow to run in a 10 furlong handicap. He is drawn 3 of the 10 runners and Luke Morris takes the ride. He ran an eye-catching race at Newbury but was rather green and ran in snatches. We put blinkers on him next time out in an apprentice race at Sandown but they worked too well and he just went too fast. He has worked well at home since then and the run in the blinkers appears too have helped him but we are leaving them off tomorrow. He works better than his handicap mark at home so if he can re produce home form on the track then he is capable of running well.
